Abstract

Pure lipoma of the uterus is an extremely rare tumour, even though lipoma is the most common soft tissue tumour overall. The lipomatous tumours constitute 0.03% - 0.25% of all the uterine neoplasms, and pure lipoma of the uterus is even rare. It is a benign tumour composed purely of mature fat cells (adipocytes). CT finding and Ultrasonography is usually non-specific. Although MRI is useful to identify the fatty nature of the lesion, preoperative diagnosis is seldom made. It may be misdiagnosed clinically or on imaging as a leiomyoma with fatty degeneration, or even a malignant tumour. This case report emphasizes on a 70-year-old female who presented to the gynaecology department with pain abdomen for the past 6 months. MRI showed post- menopausal uterus with altered signal intensity area in the anterior wall, concerning for uterine Lipoleiomyoma. Basis the intra-operative frozen section findings and histopathological evaluation, the final diagnosis of pure uterine lipoma was made.
